Zhishu Qiu
Graduated PhD Student
Biography
Zhishu completed her PhD at the University of Strathclyde with the Applied Superconductivity Laboratory, where her research focused on developing high-temperature superconducting (HTS) armatures for electric aviation propulsion motors. She worked on novel HTS coil architectures aimed at increasing armature current loading and improving overall motor efficiency for next-generation aircraft systems.
Following her graduation, Zhishu joined the ESRF (European Synchrotron Radiation Facility) as a postdoctoral researcher within the Insertion Devices and Magnets team in the Accelerator & Source Division. Her current work involves advancing superconducting undulator technology based on HTS materials to enable efficient generation of high-energy synchrotron radiation. Her efforts include numerical modelling, performance prediction, and the development of quench protection systems for safe and stable operation.
We are proud to have supported her doctoral journey and look forward to seeing her continued impact in the field of applied superconductivity.
