ASL Participates in Transport Sector Workshop on Superconducting Machines and Systems

ASL researchers Alexander Shchukin and Ercan Ertekin recently participated in the Transport Sector Workshop organised by the Superconducting Machines and Systems Catalyst at IAAPS, Bristol.

The workshop brought together representatives from industry, academia and the wider superconductivity community to discuss the development of superconducting machines for transport applications and the key challenges that must be addressed on the path towards commercial deployment. Participants explored potential approaches to accelerating the adoption of superconducting technologies across future transport systems.

A major theme of the event was the role of superconducting technologies in supporting the UK’s long-term aerospace and transport ambitions. Discussions reflected priorities outlined in the Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) technology strategy, including high-power electrification, advanced propulsion systems and zero-carbon aviation technologies. The workshop also provided an opportunity to engage with organisations from the aerospace sector, suppliers of superconducting materials, research groups and companies involved in fusion technology development. These discussions highlighted opportunities for collaboration and the importance of building a strong UK ecosystem capable of delivering superconducting solutions for future aerospace, transport and energy applications.
