    Associate Professor Jie Sheng from Shanghai Jiao Tong University will deliver a talk on the latest progress and trends in high-temperature superconducting (HTS) power cables in China. His presentation will highlight how superconducting power cables, with their high current-carrying capacity and compact design, are emerging as key solutions for relieving transmission bottlenecks in urban grids.

    Drawing on China’s Cable Demonstration Project, Prof. Sheng will share advances in coupling macro-scale power system parameters with micro-scale superconducting cable performance through a field-circuit coupled model integrating electromagnetic, thermal, and fluid analysis. He will also outline plans for a HTS switching station demonstration project, addressing fault propagation, operation and maintenance strategies, and load recovery mechanisms. The talk will cover innovative approaches to improving economy and reliability, including strategies to reduce cryogenic demand under load fluctuations and minimize outage probabilities.

    Prof. Sheng, a recipient of the Shanghai Rising-Star Program award and Director of the SJTU-Yixi Tech Joint Superconducting Laboratory, brings extensive experience in superconductivity theory and its power applications, backed by multiple national and provincial research projects.
